Take a Load Off Dennis, Take a Load for Free |
We do what we can and one of the things I've been asked to do by a fellow forum brother is to relay some tragic news, that maybe a bit too much for him to do right now.
Several days ago Dennis S/O passed away way before her time. Most everyday that Dennis was not trying to make a tuna quota, he was at the hospital. All day long, except for lunch where he had scouted a two block perimeter around the hospital to find the best places to eat. I tried to join him for lunch a few times and then to meet S., but I was unable to make it work and the opportunity passed.
So Dennis is in the Maldives and S.'s funeral is today. That's a tough day in anyone's book. I'm sorry Dennis. I wish this wasn't true. Peace my friend, today and for all of your days.

Re: Take a Load Off Dennis, Take a Load for Free |
I'm so, so sorry to hear this.
I'm trying to come up with something meaningful to say. I really can't.
Dennis, you know all the Hunter quotes.
Barlow wrote very movingly about the sudden death of his significant other,
https://projects.eff.org/~barlow/cynthia.html ,
which I guess has some value as yet more evidence of the universality of experience. But what does that matter? The details are different.
As they always are.
"This happened on December 30, 2003. That may seem like a while ago but it won't when it happens to you.
"And it will happen to you. The details will be different, but it will happen to you. That's what I'm here to tell you."
-- Joan Didion
I read that quote some time ago and it stuck with me, so I'm passing it on. Quite true, of course, for what it's worth.
Insert the whole of Ripple here.

Re: Take a Load Off Dennis, Take a Load for Free |
some things just aint right, so, so, sorry my friend!!!
Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Phil Lesh
Look out of any window
Any morning, any evening, any day
Maybe the sun is shining
Birds are winging, no rain is falling from a heavy sky
What do you want me to do
To do for you to see you through?
For this is all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago
Walk out of any doorway
Feel your way like the day before
Maybe you'll find direction
Around some corner where it's been waiting to meet you
What do you want me to do
To watch for you while you're sleeping?
Then please don't be surprised when you find me dreaming too
Look into any eyes
You find by you; you can see clear to another day
Maybe been seen before
Through other eyes on other days while going home
What do you want me to do
To do for you to see you through?
It's all a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago
Walk into splintered sunlight
Inch your way through dead dreams to another land
Maybe you're tired and broken
Your tongue is twisted with words half spoken and thoughts unclear
What do you want me to do
To do for you, to see you through?
A box of rain will ease the pain and love will see you through
Just a box of rain, wind and water
Believe it if you need it, if you don't just pass it on
Sun and shower, wind and rain
In and out the window like a moth before a flame
And it's just a box of rain, I don't know who put it there
Believe it if you need it or leave it if you dare
And it's just a box of rain, or a ribbon for your hair
Such a long, long time to be gone and a short time to be there
